EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR’S CORNER

Larry Vallieres, Interim Executive Director

First and foremost, I would like to thank the Board of Directors for their vote of confidence by appointing me as the Interim Executive Director of our great Association. While serving in this temporary position, it is my intent to see that our members continue to receive the level of service and attention that they so deserve. The Executive Committee and Board of Directors are in the process of finding a new full time Executive Director and will keep the membership informed in the progress.

Once again, our annual golf tournament at Tunxis Plantation was a great success! We had 248 golfers playing on two courses and a total of 271 in attendance for dinner. The weather was fantastic and everyone had a great time. A thank you to Steve Borelli and Phil Nizzardo, co-chairs of our golf committee, the other committee members and all of the volunteers and staff for making this such a wonderful and enjoyable event.

We are now at that time of the year when we gear up for our apprenticeship training classes. This year we have 99 apprentices registered for classes. Our instructors recently attended a training class at our facility on the new CMS system as presented by Paul Dolenc from our National office. The new Content Management System (CMS)  is to provide the instructors more flexibility in how the apprenticeship program is administered. Instructors have a great deal of additional resources with the CMS. They can upload documents, videos, add activities, etc. However, the biggest feature with  CMS is that instructors can conduct classroom learning online using the Big Blue Button video conference feature (We would not use this feature at this time, but in the future it could help us move to a more blended training program or a full on-line program).

As of 8-3-19 we have provided continuing education classes for 981 licensed electricians, which represents about 15% of all license holders that have taken continuing education as of that date. Our continuing education program for the 2020 license renewal year has been submitted and approved by the state. We will be posting a schedule for these classes to our website in the very near future. Please refer to our website for those dates, times and locations. Also, if you haven’t taken your continuing education classes for 2019, please register as soon as possible as our classes are filling up quickly.

License renewals for Connecticut have been sent out by the Department of Consumer Protection, so don’t forget to renew your license. If you have not yet received your renewal application, you should contact the Department of Consumer Protection at 860-713-6100.

Our next membership meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, September 11, 2019 at Anthony’s Ocean View, 450 Lighthouse Road, New Haven, Ct. 5:30 PM, sponsored by Electrical Wholesalers and ABB. We look forward to seeing you in attendance! Don’t forget to register! The first 40 to register will receive a FREE drink ticket compliments of IEC New England.
